Like any traditional Andalusian city, Marbella celebrates the relationship between the ancient and the new. The Old Town (or Casco Antíguo, in Spanish) is a must-go place to visit - its historical buildings and maze of cobblestoned streets are filled with shops and fancy restaurants where you can delight yourself by tasting sophisticated Mediterranean cuisine or traditional flavoursome tapas. There is no way your visit to Old Town is complete until you visit the active Orange Square, located right in the centre of this neighborhood with cheerful cafés where you can enjoy a good old glass of wine or any other fresh beverage.
It's important to stay relaxed in order to avoid stress. You can find all the peace and quiet on the green parks of Alameda and Parque de la Constitución. Alameda is located on the south of Old Town and it is famous for its Andalusian tiles that cover the iconic central fountain, as well as benches decorated with traditional tile, not to mention the number of floral species and tropical plants that you can find in there.
Parque de la Constitución has a privileged location near the beachside and in addition to having a beautiful grove and sets of flowers, it also has an open-air auditorium dedicated to outdoor shows as well as an astronomical observatory and a children's park.
There are plenty of options if you don't feel like driving. The best way to move around the major points of Costa del Sol is by using the commuter train, which has two lines. The one that can suit you best is called C-1, connecting stations from Málaga to Fuengirola. A new mobility project is the metro, already with two lines and with another one under construction. It can take you to well-known places like the University of Málaga and Carretera de Cádiz.
This particular zone was previously called Costa del Viento (windy coast in English) as the wind blows constantly throughout the year. Nevertheless, the weather is typically Mediterranean, with hot Summers and a mild temperature Winter season. From October to March, it can be registered for some rainy periods. The Winters aren't exactly rigorous - the mid temperatures can go up to 15ºC during the day and the night there's usually a downfall to 5ºC.
Needless to say that Summer isn't Summer without a trip to the beach and Marbella is no exception - it is always a good idea to visit Marbella's stunning beaches and not just during the Summer. Having a shore that extends for hundreds of miles, you can find paradise beaches such as Cabopino and Fontanilla and with a distance of only 10 minutes by car.
The best shopping malls in Costa del Sol are located mostly in its main city Málaga. We highlight the famous Larios Centro Shopping Mall, located in one of the most expensive streets of Spain - due to it's luxury, this street was already compared to other world-known fashionable streets, such as 5th Avenue in New York, Champs-Elysées in Paris and Via Montenapoleone in Milan. Outside Málaga, you have Miramar Shopping Center, located in Fuengirola and pretty near the shore side of town with a cinema and the most well-known shops and restaurants. Another shopping mall that might be of your interest is Marina Banus, just 12 minutes away by car from Marbella and also pretty close to the shore.
The privileged location of Costa del Sol makes its cuisine a top reference on Mediterranean gastronomy. From Marbella to Nerja, there are tons of restaurants that can provide the best tasting experience for all your family. The sea blesses this region with fresh seafood and a vast selection of fish, molluscs and crustaceans, inspiring the local chefs to conceive the most stunning and inspiring dishes. You can also include the more traditional Spanish plates, including the world-famous paella. We take the liberty to open your appetite with these suggestions:
Day or night, Costa del Sol's variety of bars is also pretty extensible. You can find all types of places to enjoy a drink in the heart of the main towns, as well on the shores. Enjoy a magnificent terrace while feeling the refreshing breeze of the sea on your neck or adventure yourself by discovering the top choices for daring but delicious cocktails.
