Cartagena and Murcia

Cartagena and Murcia are the cities on the spotlight in Costa Cálida. It boasts great archaeological treasures including the Roman theatre, Modernist (Art Nouveau) buildings and interesting museums. It is a harbour city of 3,000 years of history. Cartagena It is one of the oldest cities in the world. You can spend a day in each city to discover all their history. In Murcia, besides the historical part, you can also walk along the River Segura and watch the view.

The Mar Menor and La Manga

On the southeast of Murcia is another beauty of nature. It is considered as the world's largest natural pool with 170 square kilometres of a shallow lagoon in warm waters and a variety of hotels and sports facilities. 

Mar Menor is one of the best locations in Europe for training and learning all kinds of water sports, like windsurfing and sailing. The Mar Menor is separated from the Mediterranean by a narrow strip of land of 22 km. This region is called La Manga del Mar Menor, which is a  popular tourist resort on the Mediterranean and you can find some amenities, including marinas, supermarkets, sailing schools, leisure centres, shops, bars and restaurants. At those resorts, you can find some seasonable Golf Championships. It is also possible to arrange horse rides from the Mar Menor through the mountains along the coast as well as through the vast plains of the Campo de Cartagena. And you can enjoy a walk along the coast of Mar Menor from Las Alcazares to the marina of Lo Pagan.

La Manga is considered a paradise as well, between seas for all types of water sports and activities that can be practised at its numerous clubs and sports schools.

The stretch of coastline is very ideal for diving, sailing, cave diving, hiking and climbing. The region is ideal for skin diving. Aguilas boasts extensive solitary beaches of La Higuerica, La Carolina and Calabardina. Besides that, you can also dive into the waterpark at Aguilas and have some fun.  

Cabo de Palos is great for scuba and cave diving, the coast is ideal with its wide range of underwater settings and the good visibility of the transparent water. As well, a good spot in Spain for skin diving too. For cave diving, the underwater caves are located between Cartagena and La Azohia 

As for hiking and mountain biking, the road is along the coast between Cabo de Palos and Portman, between Cartagena and the Bay of Mazarrón. In addition, the trails and the roads between them are ideal for mountain biking with spectacular landscapes through the mountains. And, fishing is a very popular water sport in all along the Costa Cálida coast. The areas along Águilas and Mazarrón are ideal due to the depth and transparency of the waters. Also the Salinas de San Pedro are beautiful. In Calnegre Park and Cabo Cope are amazing for hiking and nature walking as well.

By bus you can get services to Malaga, Granada, Cordoba and Sevilla, as well as Madrid and Barcelona. By train the service goes to Madrid; Barcelona via Alicante and Valencia; and local links to Car rental travel may be the best form of transportation to Andalucia if you don't have a rigid schedule. Although a little more expensive than bus travel, car rentals allow the greatest amount of flexibility for sightseeing along the way and visiting many historical, old towns you would have otherwise missed.

The Costa Cálida is the same as the "warm coast", which means it comes from the warm water temperatures which are here on average five degrees higher than in the surrounding Mediterranean. Blessed by a mild Mediterranean climate it has around 315 days of sunshine per year. Minimum temperatures range between 12-14C and maximum temperatures between 20-22C in winter. Summer temperatures vary between 18-20C minimum and between 30-35C maximum. The average annual temperature is 18C.

The Costa Cálida is the approximately 250 km stretch of Mediterranean coastline on the Spanish province of Murcia. It is blessed with many kilometres of fine sandy beaches, with some areas backed by dunes and virgin pine forests. The many towns and villages on the coast are proud of their promenades and beaches. Town beaches are well served by bars and restaurants, many with great views of the Mar Menor and La Manga.?

The seawater is warm and very pleasant for bathing. The Mar Menor is shallow and the beaches slope gently, making them ideal for families with children, and anyone who prefers not to be buffeted by the waves.?

The Mar Menor is surrounded by the districts of San Pedro del Pinatar, San Javier, Santiago de la Ribera, Los Alcazares, La Manga, Aguilas, Bolnuevo and Puerto Mazarron.

Near the coast, in Finestrat, we can find the shopping mall La Marina, where you will find a variety of shops, restaurants and supermarkets. The beautiful harbor city of Alicante has a lot to offer. A little further on we find Dos Mares in San Javier; a nice indoor shopping mall with a cinema and many restaurants as well. In Murcia there are plenty of shops in the beautiful old town. Many boutiques and an El Corte Inglés. There is a large Ikea and two large shopping malls;  Cartagena is also a beautiful city for shopping, in this beautiful old town you will find many nice shops and boutiques and a square full of restaurants. Near Cartagena we also find a large shopping mall Espacio mediterraneo, which guarantees shopping pleasure 365 days a year.
