Explore Calella de Palafrugell

Calella de Palafrugell is a small fishing village at the heart of Costa Brava. Although it appears to be just like an ordinary Spanish village, if you look closely you will discover the magic of the region and the beauty of it surrounded by beautiful coves and white houses near the beach. Whether you choose to travel on foot, or by bike, the breathtaking views and amazing scenery here will leave you wanting more!

Dive into the Mediterranean

The beaches of Calella are your best option if you are looking for some well-deserved unwinding. These beaches are a small haven where you can enjoy a sunny day and take a refreshing dive into the Mediterranean.

The urban seashores Port Bo and En Calau are ideal for those who need to go to the beach with all conveniences close by. Yet, if you are willing to sacrifice these, you can find other great beaches along the Camino de Ronda, like the superb El Golfet beach at the botanical gardens of Cap Roig.

Tossa de Mar’s beaches are also absolutely stunning, particularly the hidden cove, so make sure to visit it, too!

Botanical Gardens of Cap Roig

The Cap Roig Botanical Garden is located between the towns of Palafrugell and Mont-ras, above the Bay of Calella de Palafrugell. It was created by a Russian couple in 1920 and it not only holds cultural sculptures and fascinating arts but also offers beauty around 1000 plants and flowers from different parts of the world!

These beautiful gardens also have walking paths with the view of the coastal area and the beautiful sea. The outdoor platform is mainly used as a stage for the performances held during summer by the famous festival known as The Cap Roig Festival.

If you plan to have a picnic here with your family to enjoy and relax, this is the perfect spot surrounded by nature and with a fantastic view of the coast!

The entry fee is 10 euros, and it takes about 25 minutes to reach, from the Calella de Palafrugell. There are also buses available during the summer time that allow tourists to easily travel around the neighbouring towns such as Palafrugell and Llafranc. If you are travelling by car, then free parking is available outside of the gardens.

The local festival

Calella de Palafrugell is also known for its native festival known as The Cap Roig Festival. This festival has been celebrated every year since 2001 with music and dance in the Gardens of Cap Roig between the months of July and August. In recent years it has become popular and has gained the attention of not only tourists but also international artists who love to perform here, such as Lady Gaga in 2015, and Jason Derulo in 2017. In addition to that, The Cap Roig Festival was ranked second in the list of “10 best summer festivals” by The Independent newspaper.

Nightlife

Want to experience nightlife in Costa Brava and don’t know where to go? The resorts of Palamos and Playa d’Aro are the perfect place for you and your friends. Here you can enjoy excellent music and drinks while being surrounded by water until dawn! Costa Brava is also known for the amazing whimsical sunsets, so make most of the terrace bars here, and enjoy the evening!

Another remarkable place, mostly known for its best party destinations in Costa Brava is Lloret de Mar. Lloret de Mar is a coastal area which is about 75km (47 miles) north-east from Barcelona, and only 40km (25 miles) from south of Girona. This region has more than 100 nightclubs, attractive bars, and restaurants for groups of friends who love to party and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of the town and also for those who are looking forward to enjoying good food in an exotic place!

Food and restaurants in the Costa Brava

For a smallish corner in Northern Catalonia, the Costa Brava sparkles incredibly bright on the food scene. Home to the famous Celler de Can Roca in Girona (twice ranked Best Restaurant in the World), this town was also the setting for Ferran Adrià‘s incredible El Bulli

There’s everything in Costa Brava, from innovative top-notch food and Michelin-starred spots, with stunning ocean views to rustic hideaways serving equally heavenly dining. There are also seafront stalwarts where you can brush on fresh calamari and grilled sardines - all at a fraction of the cost you’d pay in France or Italy!

Whether you want to go on a long hike, or be mesmerized by the spectacular sights, beaches, enjoy the foods, or discover the history and the culture of Costa Brava’s past, this town will surely leave you astounded. The extensive tourism that is being practised here also ensures top quality services! If you want to find out more about Costa Brava, explore here.
